Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a specialist intervention and is an essential part of our clients’ lives.
It provides a rare opportunity for freedom of movement. The warm water helps painful joints and the water’s pressure helps to improve lung function which, in turn, reduces the chances of infections occurring. Hydro also helps improve muscle tone and co-ordination and is a fun way to get active.
Hydrotherapy provides our clients with a real sense of freedom
Everyone loves these fun and relaxing times in the pool, which all help to improve physical and emotional wellbeing. One client often doesn’t smile or engage much via eye contact or body language. However, when he’s in the water, he is independently mobile, walking around and smiling with this newfound freedom.
Natalie, Team Leader
For people with PMLD who struggle to communicate, being in the water helps them to vocalise or move their arms to indicate what they want. We run hydrotherapy sessions in collaboration with one of our partners, Osbourne Court, which has a specially equipped, fully disabled access warm water pool. We also hold leisure swims at nearby leisure centres.
